A BRIEF COMPENDIUM
OF THE CONVERSION OF ENGLAND
The 2nd-century (197 A.D.) Church Father Tertullian wrote that
"the blood of martyrs is the seed of the Church,"
meaning that the martyrs' willing sacrifice of their lives leads to the conversion of others and the perpetuation of the Faith. This teaching is part of the Magisterium of the Catholic Church and points us to the righteous who gave their life for the Faith.

Pope Leo XIII recalled that England had long been known as Our Lady's Dowry. A title bestowed upon England by the Vatican.
Pope Leo XIII spoke of
"the 'wonderful filial love which burnt within the hearts of your forefathers towards the Mother of God... to whose service they consecrated themselves with such abundant proofs of devotion, that the Kingdom itself acquired the singular title of Mary's Dowry".
This in part was due to Our Lady's Shrine at Walsingham being one of the four World Pilgrimage sites along with Jerusalem, Rome & Compostela de Santiago. It has long been acknowledged that:

"DEFENDER OF THE FAITH"
When England's monarch is crowned they proclaim to be 'Defender of the Faith' i.e. the Catholic faith. This was a title given by Pope Leo X to our very own Henry VIII.
The title was conferred in recognition of Henry's book on the Sacraments of the Catholic Church....

THE WALSINGHAM PROJECT
The Walsingham Project is an international prayer movement with the goal of praying for the Conversion of England.
It is not just the English who pray for the conversion of England. When England is converted Catholics from other countries also believe that Europe and other parts of the world will also be converted.

ST DOMINIC SAVIO &
THE VISION OF THE
CONVERSION OF ENGLAND.
In 1857 Dom Bosco related to Blessed Pius IX a vision of St. Dominic Savio:

'One morning, while I was doing my thanksgiving after Holy Communion, I was taken by a strong distraction. It seemed that I was on a very vast flat land surface, full of people surrounded by thick darkness. They were walking, but did so as though they had lost their way and could not see where they set their feet. Someone beside me said, "This region is England."

'Then I saw the Supreme Pontiff, Pius IX. He was dressed in a majestic fashion, carrying in his hands a splendorous light, and advancing amidst the multitude of people. As He advanced, the darkness gradually disappeared and the people were bathed with so much light that it seemed noon time.
'The friend said, "This light is the Catholic Religion, which must illuminate England."'

The Cure d'Ars St Jean Vianney &
the Vision of the
Conversion of England
It is well known that the Cure became devoted to Our Lady of La Salette. Archbishop William Ullathorne of Birmingham went to La Salette in May of 1854 to verify for himself the events that had occurred there. He was able for example to verify that there had indeed been a failure of the potato crop in the autumn of 1846 which led to widespread hunger in the mountainside areas. He went to see the Cure of Ars and as he was explaining the need for the Cure to pray for English Catholics who were suffering so much
"Suddenly he interrupted me by opening those eyes-cast into shadow by their depth, when listening or reflecting - and streaming their full light upon me in a manner I can never forget, he said, in a voice as firm and full of confidence as though he were making an act of faith…
'I believe that the Church in England will recover her ancient splendour'.
I am sure he firmly believes this, from whatever source he has derived the impression". (Archbishop Ullathorne quoted in Trochu's "The Cure ofArs".)

"During the month of January, 1066, the holy King of England St. Edward the Confessor was confined to his bed by his last illness in his royal Westminster Palace
They said: 'The extreme corruption and wickedness of the English nation has provoked the just anger of God. When malice shall have reached the fullness of its measure, God will, in His wrath, send to the English people wicked spirits, who will punish and afflict them with great severity, by separating the green tree from its parent stem the length of three furlongs. But at last this same tree, through the compassionate mercy of God, and without any national (governmental) assistance, shall return to its original root, reflourish and bear abundant fruit.'
After having heard these prophetic words, the saintly King Edward opened his eyes, returned to his senses, and the vision vanished. He immediately related all that he had seen and heard to his virgin spouse Edgitha and to Stigand, Archbishop of Canterbury, and to Harold, his successor to the throne, who were in his chamber praying around his bed." THE VISION OF
THE CONVERSION OF ENGLAND
Our Lady gave to Maximin in September 1846 a vision that contained the phrase "A great country, now Protestant, in the north of Europe, will be converted; by the support of this country all the other nations of the world will be converted."
Laodicea suggests that in all probability this prophecy refers to England. In support of this view he offers three arguments:
1. No other country fits the description so well as England. It is in the North of Europe, is Protestant, and was certainly regarded as great (I take this to mean "major power") at the time. What other country could better fit that description at that time?

2. The country of the prophecy must somehow be in a position to support the conversion of the world. This means communication, to which language whether spoken or written is central. English is now undeniably the new universal language of the world. This gives this country a great advantage in the communication of ideas. Of course, other countries speak English as their national language, but none of them are in Northern Europe and Protestant.
3. Catholics around the world have a devotion to the Conversion of England so that large swathes of the world will be subsequently converted, particularly Europe. The Walsingham Project (a foreign Catholic project) in especially promoting the Prayer for England and the Conversion of England.
4. There are already well acknowledged prophecies of the Cure of Ars, Edward the Confessor and St. Dominic Savio concerning the conversion of England.

ST. PAUL OF THE CROSS & ENGLAND
That it was that God was calling Paul to spend his whole life praying for the return of “Mary’s Dower.” From this time to the end of his life, Paul was to pray “unceasingly” — his own term — for England. This constant devotion of Paul is brought out very emphatically by Venerable Dominic in his introduction to Blessed Vincent Strambi’s “Life of St. Paul of the Cross:” “England was always the country of his predilection. It might almost seem to some who knew him well, as if he had no heart, no feeling but for England. England was always in his thoughts; England was constantly the subject of his discourses; England was always before him in his prayers. For the space of fifty years he prayed for England without intermission.” Elsewhere it is related that throughout the years Paul’s frequent reminder to his children was: “Ah, England! England! Let us pray for England.”

Pope Leo XIII (who canonised & beatified ten of our Martyrs) commissioned the prayer which was most likely composed by his English Secretary of State, Cardinal Merry del Val. It was stated by Leo XIII that the prayer be said after Mass.
“We grant, that is, to all those who piously recite this prayer....... an indulgence of three hundred days; moreover, a plenary indulgence once a month on the observance of the usual conditions to those who have recited it daily”.

The reading of this Prayer was stopped after 19 years & many Catholics believe that although the Catholic emancipation occurred after the reformation, England has not been converted. The prayer is said in many Catholic churches to this day, and especially at The Roman Catholic Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham and Tyburn Convent
